Why should you invest in SEO and how?

You might have the best product or provide the best service in the world, but what’s the point if people don’t know about you and can’t reach your website? Every second on an average around 30,000 search queries are made on Google, which accounts to over 3.5 billion searches every day. Imagine the amount of traffic you could be directing to your website.

Investing money into advertising, social media campaigns and other mediums pays off, but for a shorter period of time. SEO is a long term deal!

But, what is SEO? These are certain set of rules that can be followed by a website or a blog owners to optimize their websites for search engines. It helps you improve search engine rankings. It helps you serve millions of users everyday looking for answers to their questions or solution to their problems.

Most users are likely to choose one of the first five suggestions shown in the search results.

These are words or phrases that make it possible to find your website on search engines. You need to understand how people are looking for your product, service or information. Do a keyword research using tools like KeywordTool, WordTracker and UberSuggest. You can also find search volume of these keywords using AdWords Keyword Planner. Other than the content of the website, these keywords can also be included into:  

  • Meta Tags: This is the information that is put in the head of the HTML code.
  • Title Tags: These are the better description of the specific page. They appear in SERP, that is why primary keyword should be included in your title tag.
  • Alt Tags: Search Engines can’t read images, that is when alt tags come into picture. These tags help the Search Engine understand what the image is about.
  • Url: Primary keyword should be included in the url. It should be descriptive and makes the page’s topic obvious.
Quality of the content:

Google launched its Hummingbird algorithm in 2014, which emphasizes on the quality of the content. These are Google’s guidelines:

  • Make pages primarily for users, not for search engines.
  • Don’t deceive your users.
  • Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings.
  • Think about what makes your website unique, valuable, or engaging. Make your website stand out from others in your field.

Offer real valuable, meaningful, unique, different and useful content your users won’t find anywhere else.

Internal Linking:

This acts as a powerful SEO weapon. How? It makes it easier to navigate around your website for user as well as for the search engine. It can be achieved using content links ( redirecting people to other relevant pages ) and permanent navigation links.

Off Page SEO:

Backlinks:

These are reference link from other sites. A useful website has reference from other sites. It tells the search engine that your website is trustworthy. This can be done through link exchange, blogging, cross linking etc. Google checks the quality of the source from where the link is redirected to your website.

Social Networking Sites:

It is one of the off page link building also known as Online Reputation Management. Mentions and shares on popular social networking sites help build on-line reputation of your business.
